Heroes Miniatures Giant Lion headed demon, plus lead rot and a little more...

Due to the keen eyes of a good hobby friend (thanks Vincent) I now have a copy of the above mentioned Heroes Miniatures A1 Giant Lion headed demon, sculpted by the maestro of old school himself, Tony Yates. The Adversary range is a misc bunch of fantasy goodness. Still a few to id as yet though...

On to the pics... as is Tony's style, he is a hefty hunk of metal, approximately 50mm in height.

Another sorry piece of Citadel history turned up... this old C30 Amazon Koka-Kolim (striking with blow-pipe or clubber, depending on which reference material you read). She is beyond saving unfortunately and will join the few pieces I have sent to that lead bin in the sky...

Another lovely piece turned up in this lot, an old Chaz Elliott sculpt for the Clarecraft Discworld range, DM09 (Captain) Carrot. The rest of the range can be seen here. This one is in the original white metal, much preferable to the later polished pewter of which I have a number of examples. I've painted the Luggage and Rincewind but they seem to have gone into hiding... I've had to use my poor pics off the Lost Minis WIKI so they are below...

More posts coming soon folks... I've been too quiet for too long. Don't forget to become a Politico (top left, grow the lead revolution please) or even hit The Little Soldier Company banner at the top and pick up some pieces...

Tony Yates - Warmaster & Blade Wife now at Foundry!

A most wonderful parcel popped through my door today, 2 new sculpts by my good friend and wargaming aficionado Tony Yates, produced by Wargames Foundry. They're not on the site as yet but I'm told they do have some in stock. Ask them via email or ring but don't forget to tell them I sent you!

Tony just sent me the artwork for the characters;

Here are pics of the 'greens' - sculpts can be made from an epoxy putty which is a mixture of blue and yellow turning green.....American Tom Meier (of Ral Partha and Thunderbolt Mountain fame) introduced this putty in the late 70s when Milliput had been the general norm - 'Greenstuff' was found to hold much finer detail and be much easier to work with.....

Now, Tony sculpted many, many ranges over the years, including a number of lost ranges suitable for Lord of the Rings and Michael Moorcock's Granbretan (the Hawkmoon series, Boarmen and mounted Wolf Riders) along with about 30 Star Trek Klingons - these were made for a French company but they disappeared without payment......a friend sent me a couple of pics of Hobbits recently which Tony and I believe were from this time...the hunt is on and more news will be posted hopefully........

I was introduced to Tony's sculpts via Heroes Miniatures in the late 70s at a Northern Militaire. He told me that, like many of us, he was introduced into the hobby around the age of 6 via Airfix plastics - in this case French Foreign Legion painted by his Uncle. The rest is history and will be the subject of a future post.....

Some of Tony's sculpts and advertisements are below - his illustrations are legendary and numerous throughout the hobby. I still need to id a number of the sculpts but thought some group shots would be good....

My own few painted examples.....

A mixture of Plastiform and Heroes, painted by their studio painter at the time. I picked up a large lot but still have little idea of the identities as there are no Plastiform listings available...unless you know different?

Edit (14/02/2025 - Happy Valentine's Day!) - CP Models now own most of the Plastiform molds and are slowly bringing them back to life under their Mythic Worlds lines. Tell Mark I sent you!

A great set sent to me by the man himself from his own collection. Complete pride of place in my own collection now.....

Aliens anyone?

Various eldritch horrors from Heroes Miniatures............

Do please get in contact with Foundry and pick up these new pieces, I'd love to see more sculpted for the range. If you have any of Tony's sculpts up for sale or trade do get in touch with me!

Tony Yates Heroes Mini plus one!

One of my favourite of the old school sculptors and illustrators, Tony Yates, produced a veritable plethora of minis over the years including all the Heroes Miniatures, one of my all time top old companies. I have been fortunate to pick up a number of pieces over time and have just finished a couple. The first is a Heroes mini, the 2nd in similar style so sits well with me.

A3 Evil Overlord

She who is yet to be named...........

Don't forget to check out Tony's blog as he is still thundering away with illustrations, sculpting and an unbelievable output in painting. Puts me to shame! More posts involving Tony (it will include this one) here.

Updated WIPs part one zillion..............

Finished the Hinchliffe Goblins barring the varnishing bit......Peter Gilder will be turning in his grave....something not quite finished......my photography skills are also showing a lack of something....

The Hinchliffe Giant joins the painting queue.....

A set of Orc musicians from 1994....released by a company called Fantascenes. Apparently now owned by Games Figures Inc. who are no longer trading for now....grrrrr. They had a great range of amusing figs such as peasants showings their butts etc. More info once I find it.....

Joy of joys the Creepy Mouth Monster has arrived on my doorstep. The madness that is Paul Gargon sculpts these guys...check out his Facebook page here.

As Paul has realised my painting queue is long and temperamental however the Sad Clown has at last been started......note the first casting number!!

A little bit of Tom Meier goodness.....15mm sculpts that I will never even attempt to paint...my eyesight is just not up to the task. Just incredible. Check out Khurasan Miniatures website here.

and finally another wonderful gem of a find......the craziness that is Tony Yates sculpted this back in the 80s. I believe it is from Heroes Miniatures but have yet to successfully id it....if you can help please email me at enquiries@deartonyblair.co.uk.
