Once upon a time there was a not Judge Dredd......

Sci Fi films and books have been copied mercilessly throughout the years within the miniatures industry so it was with great joy I came upon an old 80's Tabletop Games' Laserburn miniature 'LB100 Law Officer with pistol'. Sculpted by a slightly younger Bob Olley who was also responsible for a number of pieces in this range......Tony Ackland providing the rest. Pics of most can be found on the Lost Minis WIKI here

Also a pic of the 'LB102 Law Officer on bike' courtesy of my good friend Vincent.

Whatever was Bob thinking of when he designed these? I am quite desperate for the bike variant so please think of me if you come across one.....

Another good example from the Laserburn range is the Szithks war bird by Mr Ackland...lovely stuff.

15mm versions of most are now available again via Alternative Armies here. The smaller scale aliens were sculpted by the legend that is Tony Yates, may he live long and prosper. Alternative Armies has also dug out some of the 25mm molds for the Tony Acklands pirates along with the old Asgard Space Marines here. Don't, of course, confuse their Space Marines with the Games Workshop trademarked version.......after all, these were only released beforehand.....

As always give me a shout on enquiries@deartonyblair.co.uk

Before Judge Dredd there was no law.......only WIPS.....

A couple of oldish Tony Yates sculpts I picked up a few years back on a bring & buy. Thought they seemed very Judge Dredd like so I painted them that way......a lot of WIPs and bits below them....

Beautiful little lady...had to replace the sword with a steel pin as I dropped her...doh!

Update on the above minis. They are part of a range that was never released. More once I get to the bottom of it!

Came across this little gem when tidying.....an old 6mm Games Workshop Battlecars buggy.

Wonderfully large and chunky Nevile Stocken sculpt for his Archive Miniatures Runequest line; 816 Inhuman King. I never seem to finish anything but maybe one day......

Cracking old Citadel Perry sculpts from the very early 80s that were converted for test playing Rogue Trader...the forerunner of Warhammer 40K, that little known gothic SF game.....Wargames Foundry found the moulds for these and had them as a giveaway at a recent open day.

A comparison with the original Citadel FF 65 Ferocious Man Fish. Get in contact with Marcus at Wargames Foundry as he may be able slip one or two in your order if you ask nicely. Top bloke.

A Black Tree Design Russian maxim gun team and 3 Plastic Soldier infantry.....now all based and undercoated....to go with the earlier posted maxim team once I get around to it....

A piece I picked up at Salute earlier this year....a vignette of the 'infamous' conference at Yalta

A friend sent me a selection of wonderful plastic Japanese sculpts by Takeya Takayuki.....not sure whether to thank him or curse him as they are so nice I may have to collect them all........

Snake demon tormenting a soul.........

the soul in torment....

Multi part plastic that slots together easily

Need to identify these Doctor Who Sontaron types......f you could all put your thinking caps on and email me at enquiries@deartonyblair.co.uk it would help! The base marking state 'BAKERLOO' so a Google search tends to bring up a zillion hits on London's Bakerloo underground line....doh!

Update - Niklas from Sweden has identified these from  the April 1987 issue of Miniature Wargames. They are listed on a 'Stratagem' Advertisement as 'SF Figures' ,Space Marines SF (I think) 1 - 4. Thanks Niklas!

Also these 2....could be early Tony Yates but not sure.....

Update - the guy on the left is by Tony and is a Heroes Miniatures' GH39 Masked Henchman with Rifle.

and finally for now a small selection of Kinder Egg dwarves...the full set can be seen over at Stunties.

Judge Minty - charity for Judge Dredd.....

Dags of Frothers Unite fame has organised a great charity miniature that every home should own.....please give generously as they are a worthy bunch of causes...I spoke to Dags today at Fiasco and it is going really well.......more bits are being sculpted as we speak so the more we raise, the more mini goodness is available!

Who needs Dredd when you can have Judge Minty?

This year’s Charity mini is a sculpt of the eponymous hero of the forthcoming Fan Film Judge Minty sculpted by Kev White of Hasslefree Miniatures based on the character written by John Wagner that introduced The Long Walk in 1980.

There will be approximately 400 Judge Mintys cast – 200 in Metal and 200 in Trollcast.......

So here’s the sculpt……

As always, there are numerous people that deserve huge thanks for getting this project off the ground….

The cast and crew of Judge Minty, in particular, Steven Sterlacchini, Steve Green, Daniel Carey-George and, Minty himself, Edmund Dehn – without them it would not be happening.

Matt Sprange from Mongoose Publishing and the guys at Rebellion for allowing us to infringe on Mongoose’s license and 2000AD’s IP. Again, without Matt’s help this would not be happening.

Kev White for the sculpting (and Sally for letting him do it!)

Pete Brown and Ed Fortae for the casting

So how do you get your Judge Minty mini?

Easy…. Make a donation to one or both of the Just Giving Sites:

Then, and this is the important bit because it’s changed from past years, send an e-mail to charitymini AT gmail DOT com with;

1. Your Name
2. The address you want the mini sent to
3. Your Just Giving reference number
4. Your preference as to Metal or Trollcast or both

You won’t get an instant reply but will get an e-mail informing you of dispatch

There is no minimum donation per se. I've always hated telling people what they should give; it should be what you can afford but if you would like multiple copies I'd suggest £15 per mini – all money is going to the charity of your choice.

However, to shamelessly cash in on the Kickstarter fever that appears to be gripping most at the moment, the more you donate, the more you’ll get…. The first extra will be an exclusive Frothcity 1 base designed and cast by Ian (Fenris Games) Brumby (assuming he’s still alive and hasn't died of pleurisy!) that will go to everyone donating £25 or more. There’ll be more, hopefully to follow...

Postage is being covered by a mystery Frother but, especially if you’re outside the UK, take that into account when making your donation and add in a little extra J

When will you get your miniatures?

Even though we’re a bit more organised than usual these things take time especially as everyone is doing this in their spare time around their usual work.

Firstly Grey Matter will be moulding and casting a few in resin. Then he'll be off to Pete for Master moulding & master casting. Those masters are then shipped off to Ed in the States. Production moulding and casting and return shipping all takes time especially with the holiday season approaching. Hopefully they’ll be going out in late February.

Lastly, a huge thank you to you guys; without your generosity we’d never be able to continue.

Quick update. (22nd Feb 2013) ..... Jon has received the cast minis......

Nothing to say as usual, I just need to upload a couple of pics to Frothers Unite

Pay talks are ending at work and it looks like less than 2% so, another paycut. Hmmm. How motivational is the workplace today? More later!
