Dragontooth Personalities - P11 Swordswoman

 

Another one down... I've been trying to paint her for a long time but she totally wiped my mojo until the other day when I changed the colour scheme. Still not the best sculpt (quite a few are like the proverbial Marmite ie love 'em or hate 'em) but she's done. Just need varnishing now.

Dragontooth Oliphant and Cumulus the Storm Giant...

 

Two Dragontooth giants… a little pun intended. Cumulus the Storm Giant and the Oliphant. Cumulus is hollow cast but still weighs in at 823g. His thunderbolt had been replaced with one made out of plastic card of some sort… broken anyway. The Oliphant weighs in at a mere 643g by comparison… I'm not 100% certain of the sculptor but I assume the late Tom Loback sculpted the Cumulus and possibly the Oliphant... I think someone else may have done the Haradrim? Both sculpts from the late 70's.

In fact I do have two pics that Tom sent me some years back... he did sculpt the Oliphant and this was painted by Steve Tofano.

Not sure on this painted example, just found it on my laptop... nice anyway!

The 1978 catalogue lists it although without any images...

The 1979 catalogue however features it on the front cover...

And on to Cumulus...

I believe this is Tom's painted one however I could be wrong. Please give me a shout if you know otherwise...

Isolation painting... it's not all bad...

Well, I hope you're all keeping well and safe during these harrowing times... I get out once a day; in the morning to walk the hound for an hour or so but then it's staying in for the rest of the day. I shop about twice a week and keep in contact with my partner by phone... living on my own makes it quite stark although my two munchkins do visit (currently allowed) from their mum's nearby. I've been doing a evening live feed on Facebook, wittering on about painting and miniatures in general but haven't worked out how to export the videos to YouTube or here. There is a great hobby community out there and it keeps me sane... well, as sane as I could ever be of course. If you 'do' Facebook then the Old School Miniatures group is here. If you don't then join in, it's really therapeutic...

Dragontooth P18 Swordsman Roland

Roland has been half painted for 10 years or more... this has been great motivation for me to finally finish some WIPs...

 Ral Partha Halfling from the AD&D 3 Stage Character set...

Premier Productions 'Conquest' Saracens by Al Charles. This was a 40mm range of Saracens and Templar style knights. A nice range, I've a few more to do and a few more to find of course. Unfortunately I put them on different sized bases... oops...

Dragontooth, P27 Subotai the Mongol.

Well, I finally got another of the Personalities range painted... still needs varnishing but as I'm now using spray cans (Windsor & Newton) I need to wait till I've a few pieces to do... could be a while of course. A lovely figure to paint... full of Tom Loback's usual flair for the athletic posing.

Dragontooth Personalites - P41 Halfling Magician

Well, in an effort to find my hobby mojo I decided to tackle this little guy. A Tom Loback sculpt from the P range of personalities - mostly supplied as a mounted and foot version, the exception being; 

P1 Wizard, Ranger & Dwarf King

P2 Goblin Captains

P3 Pegasi (Winged Horses)

P4 Hippogriff & Unicorn

P5 Saurian Capt. & Champions

P6 Superhero & Superheroine

P7 Dungeon Feast

P7 Dungeon Feast (an 'interesting' Mike Gilbert sculpt) was retired and replaced by the first of the duo sets, Adventurer or Thief.

There are 51 codes in the range so 45 of these duos to collect...I'm still missing P42 Elfin Thief or Adventurer, P43 Celtic Wizard, P48 Celtic Warrior Prince and P50 Dwarf Warrior in Chainmail so if you have any of them to trade or sell please let me know. The full range can be seen here.

Tom sculpting in wax using a paint brush which gives his characters of lot of ebb and flow in their movement. I am totally addicted to his work of course....

Still needs varnishing of course but it was a thoroughly enjoyable set to paint.
