Dragontooth Oliphant and Cumulus the Storm Giant...

Two Dragontooth giants… a little pun intended. Cumulus the Storm Giant and the Oliphant. Cumulus is hollow cast but still weighs in at 823g. His thunderbolt had been replaced with one made out of plastic card of some sort… broken anyway. The Oliphant weighs in at a mere 643g by comparison… I'm not 100% certain of the sculptor but I assume the late Tom Loback sculpted the Cumulus and possibly the Oliphant... I think someone else may have done the Haradrim? Both sculpts from the late 70's.

In fact I do have two pics that Tom sent me some years back... he did sculpt the Oliphant and this was painted by Steve Tofano.

Not sure on this painted example, just found it on my laptop... nice anyway!

The 1978 catalogue lists it although without any images...

The 1979 catalogue however features it on the front cover...

And on to Cumulus...

I believe this is Tom's painted one however I could be wrong. Please give me a shout if you know otherwise...

The 1978 Catalogue drawing...

That's it for now folks!

Superior Models Nativity Scene

I have this set hopefully winging its way over to me as we speak. I was aware of the 3 individual Kings in the Superior Wizards & Lizards 25mm line (starting later on in the scheme of things at Wl-131 Oriental Wizard) however have never seen this set piece before. Superior went on to become Perth Pewter who have most of the old pieces by those sculpting greats Ray Lamb, Ron Spicer and Steve Tofano (there is also a set of initials in a listing that I don't recognise; LC - it may be James Lane Casey - please let me know if you know!). The Superior lines are listed and (mostly) illustrated on the Lost Minis WIKI here. An interesting (and growing) pdf early history of the military side Superior is worth a read over at Alnavco here.

Note - just found this set with added sheep & shepherd at Perth Pewter here.

Dragontooth City of Magic II - King Niflung's Throne Hall

In the early 80s Tom Loback's General Artworks or Dragontooth Inc released a series of dioramas based around a City of Magic. Designed by Tom Loback and Stephen Tofano, they produced 'limited' runs of 500 or 1000 collectors versions - still not sure what the difference was to the general release version (if there was one) unless it was the inclusion of the certificate which appears most likely. They appear on ebay etc occasionally either boxed or shrink wrap card.

The Magic Shop
The Dwarf Armory
Ye Blind Cyclops Inn
Tomb of the Dwarf King
King Niflung's Throne Hall

A few years later an English company, Shot Tower Studios, released a few diorama sets along the same lines. Short lived but very nice old school designs by Tim Dendy....link to some of my pics on the Lost Minis WIKI here.

Anyway, on to some pics taken off ebay...I tried to contact the seller but was unable to get hold of them. If he (or she) happens along and wants them removed I will do so. If anyone knows the buyer send them my way as I would love some updated pics!

I am still looking for this set and will trade first born etc.
