Things wot I painted in November.....

A mixed bunch painted during episodes of insomnia. Sleeping pattern is completely thrown at the moment....bed at 8, wake at 12, back to bed at 3, up at 5, children to school....then back to bed. Getting back to work seems to give me the only continuity in that I have to stay awake all night! Anyway, less waffle.....on to the pics....

4 more Wargames Foundry Pirates, sculpted by the talented Will Hannah....

Black Scorpion Pirate (Adam Clarke sculpt)

Black Scorpion Orc Pirate.......

Old Glory drunken Cossack.....many more to come from this assorted pack of goodies....have a look at the whole range here.

Westwind Pirate from the oop 50 Fathoms range....

Citadel Slann......I have collected these ever since they came out 30 years or more ago...this is the first one I have finished. I decided to go for a red base instead of the 'standard' green....the best resource for these is via the Collecting Citadel Miniatures WIKI.

Tom Meier sculpts from Ral Partha's old historical line...sculpted around 1977...now available via Iron Wind Metals..

Redoubt Enterprises lute player from their very nice Three Musketeers range........

Werner Klocke Goblin Pirate for Goblinaid....

The first of my Finns from Baker Company's Winter War Kickstarter

Last but by no means least, Wargames Foundry limited re-release Citadel Sci Fi Fishmen. Top sculpts and a big thank you to Marcus at Foundry. More on the way.

C&C welcome. As usual; enquiries@deartonyblair.co.uk

Valley of the Four Winds.......part 2.....35 years on.....plus Goblinaid

Having sorted out some of my Minifigs VFW boxes I thought it about time to carry on with a paint job started 35 years or so ago... VFW Lord of the Swamps on litter... although at the moment he looks a little like a bikini clad something or another... hopefully this will change...

The litter is a bit of a swine to keep together...all those years of storage have not been kind... I wanted to drill out the poles and replace them with steel wire but don't have a long enough drill bit to hand... the thought of attempting to go through our understairs cupboard for my DIY mini drills was too much to bear... I superglued a couple of end pieces at the front which will need some filling. Once I put the Swamp Lord in place (I did drill out his supports) I will need to play around with more putty to get it right. Or not... In the centre of the base is an old Citadel frog (hidden here by my clever photography) and hope to give him a poison dart frog paint job.

I am also after these pixies from the VFW range... please email me if you have them to trade/sell/donate etc... enquiries@deartonyblair.co.uk

Last but definitely not least, a WIP of the Goblinaid flyer...

Goblinaid and a Wargames Foundry update......................

Shamelessly nabbed off the Goblinaid Facebook page;

From the legendary Bryan Ansell:

"We (at Foundry) are organising ourselves to get another Goblinaid pack together.
No Kevin self portrait model in this one though. Instead, we might put a group of the really tiny snortlings in with each selection of Kevinish this and that. We will decide when we discover what moulds we have left. We will do our best to provide a significantly different mix than we have in the Kevin packs. We can't promise that you will not get a duplicate. But we will do our best: our memories of which models went in last time may be unreliable. I am sure you will find it in your hearts to forgive us any slips!
It may take a while for us to organise actual blisters and get them up on our website. We are a man or two short at Foundry (see vacancy add on our site).
However, we are happy to sell you a Kevinless pack RIGHT NOW! SO: just stay sat right where you are at your computer - go to www.wargamesfoundry.com - find the Goblinaid page - AND BUY THE EXISTING GOBLINAID PACK! - Put a note on your order that you actually wanted the new Kevinless pack, and that is what we will send you."

In case you don't know Bryan Ansell, he is the genius behind the early meteoric growth of Games Workshop....previously he sculpted and set up just a few miniature companies....Conquest, Asgard, Tabletop, Citadel, Guernsey Foundry, Wargames Foundry......he is currently attempting to not interfere in the running of a rather nice looking stately home 'Stoke Hall' which, if my brother wasn't working on a similar ongoing project in Wales, would be where I would marry off my daughters......after which I might have time to paint the figures Bryan has caused me to buy over the last 35 years or so....grrrrrrr. His son, Marcus, is carrying on in the same vein......grrrrrr.

The latest of the Goblinaid sculpts, the bust by Philip Hynes, is available on a strictly limited run from the boys at Ainsty Castings here.

Don't forget, the rest of the sculpts are currently available from those good guys at Ral Partha Europe here

Couple of bits, old and new plus Kev Adams Goblinaid...........

Well, in case anyone hasn't heard, Kev is on the mend although still awaiting the first operation on his eye. He hopes to start sculpting again soon which is great news. More from the Goblinaid Facebook post;

"Hi everybody ,
A massive thanks for all those who are helping and have helped me , i'm feeling really well and happy , eye is a lot better and i aim to be starting to make models in a few weeks time , i can focus again thanks to a prism on glasses but am very rusty and need to practice so will do bits here and there over the next couple of weeks to sharpen up .
I reckon i will need new glasses soon as ive had a wee bit of trouble seeing up close .
When i went for a walk later to go volunteering i was very disorientated and couldnt walk straight but i think its to do with my focus adjusting.
The operation was cancelled because of a toothache and its going to be a while now before they can operate so ive decided to go back to work once i'm signed off , even if my eye is a bit dry , i would rather have my independence back and get back making models .

The first model i'm going to make is a goblin decorator based on myself with eye patch tin of paint , bush , apron and maybe some rolls of wallpaper .I want all the proceeds of the model to raise money for Syrian refugees and hope it will sell better than my usual models .
Its my way of saying a big THANK YOU to everybody who has helped and its my way of showing appreciation for everybodys kindness .

Over the last few months ive kept very busy and completely re decorated the house and painted the exterior plus ive been busy in the garden , its helped me no end with healing and ive nearly finished now and will have plenty of time for working again once i start .
Obviously i need to go and have this horrible operation later on and will be off work again while it heals so i will look like a pirate for a few weeks while it heals .
The operation involves taking a sample of flesh from roof of mouth to graft below eye so i have a lower lid again.
It wont be for a while though because i cant book for the op until my teeth are fixed and ive been told to wait six weeks after the dental treatment before contacting the hospital, my dental appointments at the end of the month so its going to be around two months .
Will keep you all posted .

again many thanks .
kev

The Goblinaid sculpts are now available from Ral Partha Europe and are just great.

Kev is one of the industries stalwarts. I can just about remember a time when he wasn't at the forefront of sculpting but then I am very old! I recently took some pics of an old Harlequin (now Black Tree Design) Barnorsk War Mammoth (Kev designed the Orcs and Tony Ackland the mammoth) for a friend of mine so thought it would be good to share;

Excuse the out of focus shot.....I'll try and update it soon!

The Barmorsk Orcs are now known as Great Orcs and, although the Barnorsk mammoth is not currently available, a Barbarian version is here.

I just finished a Black Tree Design World War 2 Russian Maxim machine gun set and have prepped another one plus 3 Plastic Soldier Russian infantry.........

Kev Adams update 30th April

This time via Frothers.

"Hi All
Just really wanted to thank everybody again for their kind and generous support .
The donations are really helping us to get through this difficult period and i'm very impressed by the generosity of all the people that have made these wonderful inventive sculpts .I hope i get a set of them
this message is a short one as my eyesight makes it hard for me to type for too long due to the glare of the screen hurting my eye and my vision is not up to its usual sharpness .
My bad eye is slowly mending but is still wonky and i feel disorientated a lot of the time I get white flashes and can sometimes have double vision , my right eye is still lower than left eye due to the surgery that was to repair the damaged eye socket but because of the injuries that were inflicted the surgery has not stopped my eye from dropping as there was no bones in my face left unbroken to support my eye .
Ive tried looking at models but right now its not good and frustrating for me because i can only see them clearly if my left eye is closed .
I am back at the hospital and seeing an eye specialist on wednesday and hope for the good news that my vision will return to normal and my current wonkyness is due to the healing process ,so we are keeping our fingers crossed that I will heal as fully as I can be expected to given time and rest .Once again thank you for all the support , just knowing that so many people care and want to help is a huge morale booster for my family and myself at this moment in time .
kev"

Previously via Goblinaid.

"I would like to thank everybody for their kind support and help , its really appreciated at a time when i cant work and feel under the weather .The models are very impressive from what ive seen and i'm touched by everybodys kindness.. I'm not a facebook member and have avoided joining for years so i'm not being unsociable .
My IMac was stolen so i'm struggling with an old pc that keeps crashing so even doing emails is frustrating for me .
I try and tell myself that i'm ok but family say i'm not my usual self so i reluctantly went to the doctors and found out that i have acute psychological damage as well as physical and the doctor has told me that i need councelling for quite some time as well as regular contact with victim support .
I'm angry that ive had my life messed with and am finding that difficult to deal with at times
Ive been told to rest and to not use the computer or be in too much contact so i will be quiet for a few more weeks while i heal .
I will bounce back and am determined to get making models soon but am signed off for a few more weeks .
Thanks again for all your support ,you have been great and i love you all .
kev"

I have updated the sculpts in the earlier post so please keep checking back with Goblinaid.

Kev Adams - update

Latest news, direct from Kev himself (via Goblinaid)

"Thanks , i really appreciate what you and everyone else is doing to help me , i feel bad as I've not communicated on facebook but I've never wanted to join and the best way for me to get over what happened is to get my head into something creative so I'm compiling lots of music as its a hobby and great fun as i love mixing and doing interesting things with synths and ambient sounds. It means i will be locked at desk when I get back to work as there’s lots of new sounds to keep me interested. I'm hoping to give it a bash next week as my eye is improving .I was on a roll and making my first female models and am itching to get back.  I'm lucky I didn’t lose my sight in right eye , socket was that badly smashed that my eye was lower than it should be and the operation was very complex they tell me. Still got a broken jaw and nose is broken in three places and I was shown x-rays yesterday of how my face was all caved in and why they used metal plates to rebuild cheekbones. I hope they catch these idiots before they kill somebody. I'm not happy because they got the wrong house as its my neighbour who they were trying to rob but we both have gravel drives. There’s been a spate of similar robberies and a girl was mugged the other night outside the local shop by three hooded thugs who sound like they could be the same lot. I'm on the mend and will bounce back, there’s a new picture attached and i don’t mind if you post it so people can see I'm ok .I'm healing very well due to the fact that I drink lots of wheatgrass and juice vegetables and eat a lot of fresh fruit. I'm totally into a healthy raw vegan diet these days so I will soon recover."

Kev Adams (Goblinmaster) attacked in his own home...updated 23rd April 2013

You might have already heard the news about Kev. Awful things to happen to anyone. I'm lucky enough to know Kev quite well and a more decent sort of bloke you will not meet. He is now out of hospital and doing well however this sort of incident stays with you, long after the physical aspects have healed and gone. A lot of people in the hobby have got together in support and Dags and Geronimo have set up a Facebook page 'Goblin Aid' to help raise funds to help - the b*stards took his computer among other bits. If you can please support it, I have been following Kev's sculpting for as long as I can remember. Check out the 'Kev Adams Challenge' for a good history of his sculpting......
