Let's Get Napoleon!

Shameless promotion for the Kickstarter for my new range of 'Napoleoniques'. A set of 28mm miniatures sculpted by Martin Buck. Pete Brown has already produced the master molds so I'm now trying to raise funding for the production molds and, hopefully, to finance expanding the range. They're a great tongue-in-cheek bunch for skirmish games such as The Silver Bayonet etc.

I've started painting a set but I am well known as one of the slowest painters around...

Comparison with a Flintloque Orc and a Front Rank mini.

Please give the Kickstarter a look and let me know what you think...

Scale ruler to show the size...

If you haven't played this then it is proving very popular...

Managed to get one painted...

Medball - a Kickstarter in peril!

 Edit - thankfully funded!

Well, I've got 14 wonderful backers but still not hitting the target... I really thought this would be reasonably popular! When I think about the ranges now that I have planned, I wonder if it's worth me investing the little funds I have into them. The Little Soldier Company has never shown a profit and isn't looking like it will last long term. Very sad as it has been a labour of love and I've worked with some wonderful people. I looked into advertising with a wargaming website but this was the answer I got back;

Thanks for reaching out to us. As our minimum campaign spend is £5,000, we're not going to be the partner to help you with this.

If you fancy helping out and getting some wonderful Martin Buck sculpts cast up and released, the Kickstarter is below;

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1896378744/medball-football-players-for-medieval-gaming

It currently has 54 hours to go and is £231 away from target.

Noggin the Nog, Nogbad the Bad and Knut

These were the concept drawings from Martin for additional sculpts...

One of the hoped for upcoming new ranges...

Drunken dwarves and gnolls and some frogs... what's not to like...

Well, amongst other bit and bobs, I've managed to finish the bar room staff set from The Little Soldier Company. Sculpted by John Pickford with the Westies being based on my Arya and his Meg.

Also managed to finished a limited edition tribute to the old Citadel Fantasy Tribe 'Drunken Gnolls' from Satanic Panic Miniatures, sculpted by Martin Buck and available here.

Whilst we're at it, there's a new company on the block called White Mouse Miniatures who have some charming frogs for you all...

That's all for now... lots more to come shortly though...

Attack of the Killer Bunnies...

Q. What's fluffy and dangerous?

A. A rabbit with a gun...

For a long time I've felt the need to populate the world with armed rabbits... Grenadier Models did some back in the 70's and it kind of stuck in my head. Martin Buck was keen to hop on board (see what I did there?) and the results are rather nice...

A pic of some of the master castings next to a measuring stick...they're approximately 28mm head to lucky rabbit's foot... not including the ears...

I'm hoping this will be the start of a nice range to follow the adventures of a certain Alice as she attempts to escape the clutches of Geründerland. Further sculpts are in the offing however it's very early days and I felt the bunnies needed releasing from their burrows...

The project on Kickstarter is already a quarter of the way to funding so please bounce on over and join in...

Noggin the Nog dozing sentries add on......

Well, I thought and I thought and then I pondered some more and really the answer was quite clear. We need some add ons. Having had long discussions into the early hours with the Mouldmaker we thought we could add a pack of the 2 dozing sentries without disrupting carefully laid plans so.......if you would like the pair just add £10 to your pledge for each set of 2. This of course could help get to the free moon mouse add on if we hit the £10,000.....

Getting close to the end now....eek!

Master Castings Have Arrived!!

If you don't know the joy of welcoming your own children into the world.....well, this has a similar feel to it except maybe not as messy! The postman dropped the parcel from Peter Brown at The Mouldmaker this afternoon whilst I was painting fence posts at the front of the house. Twas a joyous moment indeed. I did finish painting the posts before going in as well....total commitment to my craft.

Just before the molding......a scary process as the sculpts can end up getting damaged in the process....fortunately not in this case, thanks Pete!

This post and related ones will also be appearing on http://www.thelittlesoldiercompany.co.uk/ as that is a new project site. Quite exciting really. Please comment with thoughts and such like below.

New minis being molded...... Bob Olley Politicos!

Peter Brown of  The Mouldmaker just went live on Facebook whilst moulding up the next 5 minis in the Political Parody range....

Keeping fingers crossed on releasing these over the next couple of weeks. I may even start thinking of getting them in blisters.....more news later :)

Advance footage of the next project... wish I knew how to save the videos and post directly but Facebook is evil!

Armoured Nightfolk finally painted up.....

Continuing the recent Nightfolk theme, I've finished 10 of the armoured types. Lovely sculpts by Martin Buck......I keep looking at the finished pic and thinking I should do highlights....then I think no, they'll look fine once varnished......3 more on the painting table along with some old Nevile Stocken Archive minis.

I also took pics along the way so I've added them below....something of a new approach for me but it allowed me to look at the painting in close up as I went along without having to rely on my failing eyesight / magnification I use....

I tend to clean up the miniatures then base them before undercoating in black....a good cheat as it gives great demarcation between areas without the need to carefully paint dark lines afterwards.....

Not sure where the blue and red scheme came from but I think it works nicely....

I checked the paint job by Andrew Taylor for The Tracker and Beast piece (here) after I'd started with green....that helped with the later lighter color of the underneath areas otherwise I'd have been really lazy....

I decided to add contrasts for the cuffs as otherwise it didn't quite work for me...

Just the washes to go....GW Gryphonne Sepia. For me it gives a nice finish although sometimes a little dark....I'll need to work on this.

Finished group.......

Figures are all available from Northumbrian tin Soldier - link here.....just click on the Nightfolk tab at the top.
