Conan the Barbarian - Heritage Models Inc

I posted this mini onto the Lost Minis WIKI in its undercoated state back in 2007. Thought it might be about time to finally get it painted! At truly nice figure, probably sculpted by Max Carr who sculpted most of the Heritage Models Inc gaming minis along with Duke Siefried. I recently started frothing about Max Carr's later (2011) Barony Miniatures medieval range... unfortunately now long gone and only viewable in part by using Wayback Machine (a brilliant resource!)  If you have any Barony minis to sell / trade / donate please let me know!

There is a nice range of 25mm as well...

Images of a lot of the 25mm range are here;

They had a 'World of Conan' supplement for their 'Swordbearer' role playing game... neither of which, to my shame, are in my collection.

The full range is available once again from Michael Thomas over at Classic Miniatures - he bought the moulds and casting rights some years back and, through a real labour of love, is bringing these classics back to life.

A lot of earlier Heritage blog posts are here.

If you like the blog, please follow it and become a Politico (top left) - it makes me feel like I'm appreciated! Also, if you fancy buying me a coffee, I'm always grateful... miniature collecting is thirsty work.

Any thoughts please do leave a comment and/or email me on enquiries@deartonyblair.co.uk

Heritage Adventure Game Starter Sets

Back In 1981, Heritage USA released 4 sets of (almost) ready to play adventure game starter sets consisting of rules, paints, brush, miniatures and a painting guide. Oh, and of course one 6 sided dice. These were marketed in a slickly presented shrink wrapped box. Game design was by B.Dennis Sustare, figure design by Max Carr, painting guide and art direction by David Helber and cover, illustration and graphics by Cynthia Sims Millan. The last page of the the little rule set pushed their new 'Swordbearer' rules....... 'Now that you've begun your adventures in fantasy.......'

The miniatures themselves are a little crude however they were something of a 'wow' marketing method for the time.

If you're interested in Heritage miniatures, Michael over at http://classicminiatures.net/ has a large selection of their old miniatures that he purchased off later owners. Excellent moldings and crisp castings that I can vouch for as I have quite a few myself.

Lord of the Rings......Bakshi style 1978.....

Back in 1978 Ralph Bakshi created an animated version of Lord of the Rings....never finished but well loved. Heritage Models Inc got the licence for a range of miniatures and, for me, history was made. Max Carr sculpts.....they so capture the cartoon it is incredible.....

A couple of blisters to capture your imagination.....

The 75mm range was sculpted by the late Cliff Sanderson..one of the most talented sculptors of his generation.

John Carter Warlord of Mars

With the movie being released next week (March 9th) I thought I would post a few pics and details about the old Heritage licensed range from the early 80s. Sculpted by Max Carr they really capture how I pictured the characters when I first read the books back in the 70s. Some of the sculpts are a little basic by todays standards but that is what I love about old school minis. (BTW, Max is doing some great stuff at his new company, Barony Miniatures

Code 1503 contained the man himself and the incomparable Dejah Thoris......

The listing included a number of unreleased minis which may or may not have been sculpted before the licence was lost....one day we may find the unreleased 'greens'...
