Dragonooth Gelmen and Grenadier Gamma World

 As a lot of you know, my old school tastes tend to the very old fantasy / sci-fi - the more lead oxide coming off on my fingers the better (until the advent of eBay I loved wargame shows and, if my fingers weren't grey, it hadn't been a good show). Oh, no, I generally didn't lick them clean. Dragontooth and early Grenadier are prime examples of this... interesting sculpts but I love them and, a few days ago, a wonderful trade package turned up containing these beauties;

Dragontooth GEL6 Gelmen Infantry Armed with Spear

There are 3 variants, pics below c/o Kevan at Stunties / Lost Minis WIKI.

GEL5 Gelmen Infantry Armed with Mace - only 1 variant so I wonder if there were more?

A short video showcasing them... excuse the background noise of YouTube ads whilst I'm listening to Necroscope by Brian Lumley (read it in my youth and it's great to revisit it via audio).

I believe they were sculpted by either Mike Gilbert or Michael Katok. Confirmation needed!

Next is a Grenadier G38 Ecology / Agricultural Bots
(1 of each type). This is a loose set - haven't been able to confirm if it's a full set as yet as the images available aren't that clear. Quite infuriating trying to catalogue the GW blisters for posterity!

A blister image off Lost Minis, not a great quality reference unfortunately.

A larger 'enhancement'...

If you have any more info / images / trade pieces do let me know.

Dragontooth Giants - G9 Reptilian Giant & misc.

This is an interestingly basic sculpt that I fell in love with whilst painting. Not sure of the sculptor so if you know please leave a comment! The weapon was sculpted for it by a good hobby friend as the original had long gone. I'll possibly be adding some skulls to the base... apart from that just varnishing needed. I love the fact that he seems to be grinning with pleasure.

Also found my old G8 Hrugnir the Giant Carrying his Loot... this is the solid version, he was later cast as hollow. I must get around to weighing him as it's a massive chunk of lead. I picked up the photo print of him a while back... it has G8 stamped on the reverse so I assume it was for promotional purposes?

The box I 'found' him in...

I'd love to get hold of a hollow cast copy and also a carded one.

A few of the Dragontooth giants were based on illustrations from the 'Giants' book. Well worth picking a copy up.

That's it for now. I'm full of 'man flu' so am feeling very sorry for myself...

Dragontooth Personalities - P2 Goblin Captains

Just a quick post to put up another of the P range finished (barring varnishing). Possibly sculpted by Michael Katok? Not the nicest of figures to paint and my mojo was sorely tested but, hey ho, at least they're done.

Not the greatest of paint jobs I'm afraid... I'm determined to get the whole of the P range painted at some point!

Dragontooth Personalities - P11 Swordswoman

Another one down... I've been trying to paint her for a long time but she totally wiped my mojo until the other day when I changed the colour scheme. Still not the best sculpt (quite a few are like the proverbial Marmite ie love 'em or hate 'em) but she's done. Just need varnishing now.

That's it for now!

Dragontooth Personalities - P24 Rachir the Red Archer

Another one of Tom Loback's sculpts finished at last... I've managed to pick up examples of all the range now barring the P43 Celtic Wizard. If you have one please get in touch! The Rachir was another one based on the Elric books with a slight name change. A lovely flowing sculpt but not an easy one to paint although I'm happy with the final result. Just varnishing to go.

More later, keep yourselves safe.

Dragontooth Oliphant and Cumulus the Storm Giant...

Two Dragontooth giants… a little pun intended. Cumulus the Storm Giant and the Oliphant. Cumulus is hollow cast but still weighs in at 823g. His thunderbolt had been replaced with one made out of plastic card of some sort… broken anyway. The Oliphant weighs in at a mere 643g by comparison… I'm not 100% certain of the sculptor but I assume the late Tom Loback sculpted the Cumulus and possibly the Oliphant... I think someone else may have done the Haradrim? Both sculpts from the late 70's.

In fact I do have two pics that Tom sent me some years back... he did sculpt the Oliphant and this was painted by Steve Tofano.

Not sure on this painted example, just found it on my laptop... nice anyway!

The 1978 catalogue lists it although without any images...

The 1979 catalogue however features it on the front cover...

And on to Cumulus...

I believe this is Tom's painted one however I could be wrong. Please give me a shout if you know otherwise...

The 1978 Catalogue drawing...

That's it for now folks!

That da**ed collecting bug... Oldhammer eat your heart out...

Well, with a Kickstarter or two under my belt it was time to collate the eBay finds of the last few months... some a little older that a US friend had sent over but all good stuff to add to the lead mountain... lots of Minifigs Mythical Earth and Sword & Sorcery... oh the joy!

Some Citadel AD&D minis... unfortunately they'd had their slottas taken off but still nice to find. Two versions disappeared to a friend in America to complete his collection. I'll find them again one day!

Lovely miscellany of old Citadel DA, Grenadier AD&D and early Ral Partha elves.

A handful of Minifigs repairs... so many broken ones appear that I thought it was type to get the drill out.

Vulcan Miniatures... hopefully from 'The Court of Fools' as per the old ad below. Early Bob Naismith sculpts.

Ackland Miniatures bagged Citadel Spacefarers 54mm pieces... one more still to get in the baggie though. Tony said the giant robot sentinel in the Spacefarers 25mm range was originally destined for these...

This was an interesting 'bid on a whim' - turns out to be a Michael Perry early large scale sculpt, now believed to be related to RAF apprentices - groundcrew - RAF Halton (info C/O Chaz Elliott who painted one back in the day).

More Minifigs...

An Asgard Snark Dragon and the old McEwan bag header...

More Minifigs!

Three of the 4 Dragontooth Personalities I was missing...

Dragontooth Crocodile Giant... accompanied by a hand-sculpted weapon by a friend, Michael Booker... thank you!

More Minifigs along with a lone Garrison S&S demon...

Finally a Nick Bibby Citadel Chaos Demon...

That's it for now... as if it wasn't enough... who needs to pay the mortgage! Any comments or similar lots to get rid of please give me a shout on;
