Well, now I've caught your attention......this is a blog about gaming miniatures, both old and new school but with a leaning towards old school. I've been in the hobby since the 70s and seem to show no sign of stopping in the foreseeable future.....
One of the joys of my youth was the annual visit to the Hinchliffe sponsored Northern Militaire. I just came across my bunch of programs so will get them all shared eventually!.
Sadly never got to this show but look at the number of trade stands. Them were the days, I did manage to get to Triples in Sheffield a couple of times though.
I went in maybe '77 or '78 and remember a huge participation game with 1/72 scale model Zeroes in a kamikaze attack on a 1/72 scale US warship. Also the army was there with the training simulator for a man-portable AA missile, steered onto the target by the operator. Great times
The Aircraft Carrier in the Kamikaze game was actually Royal Navy. Built by Roger Bigg of the Mailed Fist Wargames Group it was a magnificent model. I attended as a member of the Mailed Fist for many years and still have the thank you medal I was given. Northern Militaire had three venues over the years. The Lancastrian Hall in Salford moving to the Elizabethan Hall and finally Salford University. Brings back great memories.
